Intravenous nutrient therapy

What is it? Direct intravenous infusion of various vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutrients.

When is it needed? In cases of poor oral nutrient absorption resulting in frank nutrient deficiency and/or to help support a variety of conditions like chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, gastrointestinal dysfunction and many more. Many seek IV nutrients as a “pick me up” during times of stress, as an anti-aging strategy or when getting over colds, flus or other similar illnesses.

Why is it needed? To take advantage of the direct therapeutic and nutritionally supportive effects of specific nutrients which have been shown to be helpful in specific health conditions. The limitations of intestinal absorption are bypassed thereby providing more immediate and higher levels of nutrient to the bloodstream and hence the cells and tissues.

What are the side effects? As the ingredients are essential nutrients for health, there are no side effects as in drug therapy. Most recognized “reactions” are believed to be due to preservatives in some of the nutrient mixes. The obvious way to avoid this is to use preservative free varieties. Some nutrients have a potent “detoxifying” effect and may provoke symptoms related to this. Various strategies and modifications to infusion ingredients are often applied to avoid these reactions.

In the very near future I will be providing “Meyer cocktail” and Vitamin C infusions for a variety of clinical conditions. Call my office for more details.
